Bill Blass Fall 05

Bill Blass is not the same of course. Not reliably wonderful throughout, but still interesting, and very good in places. Fabulous fabric for this dress/coat ensemble. Still going with the slightly high-waisted look too.
.

A very cute jacket/top look. Great detail and trim. The asymmetric closure would mean wearing it closed at all times. All the pants I see are wide legged, but not all are obviously pleated. All are in very drapey fabrics though..

Beautiful use of sheers, although I could see it much more practically with pants.
.

This is the most plain vanilla-style blouse I've seen yet, albeit in a wild fabric.
.

Darling, darling suit, and a most characteristic use of a large scale plaid. The feather hem is cute, and could easily be detachable. It might even be the hem of a petticoat, as he shows some that are certainly done that way with full skirts.
.

He has a couple with this jacket shape, incorporating the use of multiple fabrics. It's interesting, but I'm not sure about it. I think it's the patches on the shoulders that seem a little off, but that may only be because of the very striking Rust/Green color combination. It reminds me of one of the Marfy spring patterns this year. No pleats in these pants either.

Greatest Hits of the '80's?

Roberto Cavalli has the blouse thing going too, and here's a dress in a wonderful print in that vein.
.

A close up of the belt he uses throughout the collection, and a blouse.
.

And shades of the '80's! Look at these sleeves. Are we going back to gathered caps now? Maybe with all the emphasis on hips in the couture collections, the shoulders need to get bigger to balance? Or maybe it's just a passing aberration.Notice the fly-front zipper on the skirt. Those come around again every once in a while, but they're not too flatteing on most women.
.

Definitely channeling YSL for this one, and several others.
.

Another nice blouse. These all just remind me so much of the '80's and possibly early '90's.
.
His fabrics are fabulous, but everything is just on the edge of being overdone, and some have definitely fallen over the edge. Just a few of his details would do wonders for a wardrobe though.

Prada and Dresses Coming?

Prada has a lovely embellishment on a coat using grommets! It's similar to all the beading we see, but not quite so precious. Almost a little edgy in feel, but still refined looking, and gloves are still an important accessory. . This one is a little bolder. I like the bows on them too. . This dress fabric is so interesting. It looks like raw edge applique in a papery type of silk, possibly shantung or chinese douppioni. This would be a lot of fun to make, and the style of dress is very nice too. Very wearable all around. . Intricately detailed frogs on a suede coat. Looks like something Kenneth King might do. . It looks like more dresses are being shown in general for next fall. That's a departure, but it's been a while since that was the case, so maybe it's no surprise.

Fall 2005 RTW

I decided it might be fun to post things I think are interesting in fashion in general. We'll see what happens.

I'm noticing the return of blouses. I noticed them at the Zac Posen and Peter Som shows particularly.
These are Zac Posen.
This one I particularly like because of the general shaping of the dress. It has such unusual interior lines.

These are Peter Som.
